 Eurasian butterfly,dark brown wings and body.  Two blue eyespots on each forewing.

HI BRISYD   are you sure it's an A. I think the answer is ARGUS'

 

Bloomsbury Crossword lists gives a butterfly called a dryad.

Further to the above.. The dryad is designated as a May butterfly with  name minois dryas

Both are brown butterflies with eyespots ... However the dryad has two large eyespots on each forewing - the argus has many smaller eyespots!
