Just spent an interesting quarter of an hour reading up on French politics until I spotted the answer (doctrinaire) only to come back here and find it cut and dried. But thanks for pointing me at an absorbing topic - it's intriguing to compare French people's behaviour with English (but I'm not taking sides, LOL)
