Rt Page 32, Child Genius Qs

Is it just me and my partner? The first six questions are straightforward and pretty easy but numbers 7 and 8 just don't make sense to us, or perhaps they've reinvented arithmetic terms now!
Can anyone explain their answers please?

7. 15x7 minus 22x8 and finally divide by 2 =
choose from the following answers
330, 331,332,don't know.

8. 25x4 minus 28x9 and finally divide by 8 =
choose from the following answers
79, 80, 81, don't know.

I agree with you they do not make sense.

15x7...105 - 22x8...176= -71/2 = -35.5 As my answer isn't among the options I must be doing something wrong

Sandy, your working out is correct.As both problems end in a minus quantity it is not possible to arrive at one of the answers given

105 - 22= 83
83 x 8 = 664
664/2 - 332

Maybe you need to be looking at this through the eyes of a child, as in the Emperors new clothes, and see it can't be done. :-)

Ah, I see. You hardly need to be a genius, just know the order of the operations in the sum.

Surely there should be a gap between 22 and x8 and 28 x9

Ta for the brain strain folks, I get the idea. It would have helped if they had placed a comma after 22 in Q7 and 28 in Q8. However it's still not quite the end of it, RT gives the correct answer of 81 to Q8 but says that the answer to Q7 is 330 not 332. Clearly the RT ain't no genius!
