Some months ago, whilst doing The Daily Telegraph general knowledge crossword, I recall a two word answer, either a medical term or Latin phrase, for the 'last breath' taken before one dies.

Does anyone remember this term?

I would be very grateful. Thank you n advance

expirans
oops....exspirans
No, but cheyney-stoking is the breathing pattern (rattly)
Pixie373 is right, Cheyne-Stokes is a breathing pattern.

No. None of those ring a bell. It was similar to 'ignis fatuus', which I know has nothing to do with it, but it was definitely of the same ilk.
I googled it, but it came up with "agonal respiration" which is the name of the last breath. But that doesn't sound like what you're looking for?
suspiro ultimo?
SandyRoe, well done, although I was going to offer Ultimo Suspiro. Whichever is the correct one!
It doesn't matter which way round the words are in Latin. Hopefully, nicelander will tell us if that's what they're looking for

Yes. That's the one. Thankyou so much everybody.
