Panama hats, cool pints, sun-block,and other summer necessities don't come cheap. Why isn't this goverment doing more to help people, like myself, who are finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet?

sandy......completely logical. OK we may not need an allowance for the winter, but air conditioning is needed in the summer......so why not a summer "cool" allowance?

old people usually have the heating on all year round and wear the same clobber.

If they had the heating on today they'd be baked alive. :-)
An old guy came into work yesterday with his coat on, when I asked if he wasn't a little bit hot he replied "yes, but it had pockets in it"....?
I'd say we don't often need a summer equivalent.

Is it really so implausible? In the Winter there's an extra payment if the temperature stays at, or below, a certain level for a week.
sandy......completely logical.

Yes. They could call it the "Ice-cream benefit"
I agree Sandy. In summer I spend much more on Becks beer than I do on gin during the winter........
I expect that the government would point out that you save quite a bit of money on heating, tumble-drier etc in the hot weather.
You could have some of those 'good for nothing' youngsters to fan you.

NO. I don't want to be a burden on anyone.
I was just thinking the same sandy .Over 700 deaths so far due to the heat almost all the elderly. We need an 'abnormal weather' payment scheme rather than just a cold weather payment scheme. It is harder to keep cool than to keep warm.
after my collapse and hospital run yesterday I actually think we should all be told to go home if our working environment goes over 75 degrees. undoubtedly it was all due to the heat and now i'm off work cos of it and will lose a couple of days pay.
I agree sandy. Pimms is expensive these days!
Dotty...it had NOTHING to do with the heat............don't come the "old soldier" with sqaddy boy.
Dotty....is that a picture of you on your avatar?

Not bad....I wouldn't turn you down.....
Yesterday was I believe the hottest day of the year so far,
What did I get in the Post, an application form for Winter Fuel Allowance,
you know it makes sense!
