Would appreciate any suggestions. I did think it could be Blythe. The little e for little Eleanor. Blyth is a town in north Northumberland. And Blythe with an e is in the Scottish Borders. But all the other questions (35 in total) have had more obvious answers.
Does my suggestion seem a bit weak .... any other ideas?

All the answers are places in north Northumberland and south east Scotland!
So are the answers all towns? any particular area?

Hi Boxtops ... yes, I realised I'd missed off the obvious!
:-)
Sorry can't help but my mind was thinking along the lines of shortened nicknames for Eleanor - Ellie, Nell, Ell. There are a few places beginning Elli - Ellington, Ellingham. Just posted this in case it helps someone else come up with the right answer.

Hi knittynora ... all suggestions gratefully accepted! I thought the answer should have a combination of El and ne (for northeast), but I have had no luck with a six letter placename containing these! But I'll keep on trying .....
