Mm And Km Links May 2014 Week [4]

The Shrubbery gates are open once again for discussion and socialising.
Me? I prefer to get out-and-about every day taking photographs that serve me three purposes. They get posted on the internet, they inspire me for painting artwork and they provide entries in the Photo Soc. competitions.
Scouting around in the hills this week, I came across at least a dozen examples of a butterfly that I had never seen before - a green hairstreak. They are not rare, but form localised colonies where they are common and just a hundred yards away you may see none.
But I mustn't forget the real purpose of this thread and that is to remind you of the two Links Games taking place here in Q&P tomorrow morning.
First to kick off is the KM Game. posted by Seekeerz from Australia but it runs in UK time from early on Saturday to midnight Sunday. That version is based on The Daily Telegraph GK Crosswords and you have to guess what Saturday's shaded clues are going to be paired with in Monday's 'Herculis' crossword. Equal chance of points all weekend. Game closes midnight Sunday. Results posted by seekeerz early Monday morning.
Seekeerz will post the 4 clues (and answers) in Q&P soon after they become available on the Telegraph website.
The MM Game is is being set this month by 'King Cliffyg'. He has had two low-scoring weeks in a row and is planning to remedy that tomorrow morning when he posts his introduction in Q&P at 8:45. You will have 15 minute contemplation before his challenge words are revealed at 9:00 sharp.
Suit yourself whether you use your normal tactics or follow 'King Cliffyg's' advice but he suggests that a close scrutiny of this weekend's posts could be advantageous.
Note that this is a five-week month
Final chance of points will be next weekend
Be sure to be there for this one tomorrow:
Until then,
Happy Linking,

The nurse prodded me and reminded me it was Friday and time for my allowed time out of the home.
After taking my pills, I tottered off on my crutches towards the gates of the Shrubbery. It was some time since I had last gone to those gardens of pleasure, drunkenness and debauchery known as the Shrubbery.
I was sad to find the gates to of the shrubbery were rusty and falling off their hinges. I went inside only to find the magic mystery bus with flat wheels leaning to one side. Where was Sarumite I wondered? Where were all our beautiful girl friends? Looking further inside the bus I found the record player broken and all the discs cracked and discarded. O sic Gloria transit mundi.
Disconsolate and wandering on I found a notice board, the glass to the board was cracked but inside was a notice that said “by the authority of The Committee against Friday Enjoyments and Indulgences” the Shrubbery would be closed as of the end of June 2014 was being sold for development for a home for people of a sound, sober and sensible mind.
Depressed I wandered on and under the rhododendrons and other wilting shrubs I found the remains of past parties, empty bottles, broken glasses and the memories came flooding back. In the distance I could hear the echoes of old tunes and the voices of previous partygoers and merrymakers came back to me.
Clutching my bottle of vino amnesia I slumped onto a now moss encrusted bench and wept.
Oh brave new world, I thought. The years pass the shadows fall and at one's heels we hear times wingèd chariot, and through the fading and falling leaves of the shrubbery I heard a distant voice saying "It is later than you think".
Love to you all

Gosh Strix, I'm going to bed quite depressed after that. Cheer up - that was only the shadow of the old bus you saw. The real bus, repainted, repaired, rejuvenated has sped off to fresh fields and pastures new, where it is ferrying crowds of bright young things to all sorts of new adventures. As for us pioneers of the MM Links, it may be gone, but not forgotten. It lives on in our memories, as does so much else. I, for one, will never forget Sarumite's cunning disguises, nor those wild parties and the frosty nights out in the shrubbery, waiting for the early morning rush at the links. And as for that bus, just hang on in there, another one will be along in a minute!
