think National Health Service was first trialled there
that's what I wanted to say, dozyrozy, but it seems that was 1948
I thought of that but I associate NHS with 1948.
if the year is wrong barclays introduced the first cash dispenser on 27th june 1967

Have checked once again and its June 1947. If it helps this is a question that is in a quiz for Macmillan Cancer. Really puzzled on this one, seems google has finally let me down haha.
Could there not be a misprint in the quiz? It isn't unknown.
I can remember seeing the first cash dispenser, possibly on Tomorrows World, and my dad saying 'that'll never catch on'. He said the same about mobile phones. ;-/
Was there a National Assistance Act introduced then?

Incidentally, in June 1947 in London I was born.

Oh, I can remember the NAB! If you were on that you were the lowest of the low.
Again, if it's a misprint and should read 1937...
The 999 emergency telephone service was made available to London subscribers from 30 June 1937 and was later extended throughout the country
It's not the speaking clock either. It was introduced in the 30s.
If 1947 is correct and if it could be related to health - what about this?

The Retail Price Index (RPI) was first calculated for June 1947 It was once the principal official measure of inflation. It has been superseded in that regard by the Consumer Price Index.
