14d "In house, fixes things to eat". Answer is drumsticks, but why is drum = in house ( fixes = sticks, things to eat = full answer).
22a "Cast husband in short trousers". Answer threw = h (husband) inside trew - why short trousers; I've heard of trews, but not in singular

cockney slang - drum and base = place
also short trousers is trew(s)+h
22a taking the 's' off trews makes it short, thus 'short trousers'.
