Or 'waves' could be Hello at a pinch.
I thought of Coasters but it seems waves are not called that.
My thesaurus has Tubes as a synonym. Not sure why. I remember The Tubes though

Yes, we agree on The Kinks. As for Family/Offspring/Child (remember them?) etc I don't know how to pick - it's difficult for setters to come up with clues which have only one possible answer unless there is some extra info such as letter count or first letter

Pretend could be Imagine (Dragons) , Mock (Turtles) , sham (69) but I can't find anything that goes with hide

Yes, this quiz has been a challenge as so many of the answers are ambiguous and several could feasibly have more than one appropriate answer.
I am extremely grateful, however, for all your suggestions and ideas.

Hi Val. Please will you let us know what the answer was to "Waves" and "Hide, pretend" please when you find out.
I did wonder about Masquerade but although there are two songs I know with that in the title there is only one band- a fairly obscure Swedish one
