I believe the answer is a type of fish. On the face of it, it seems an anagram of "a shell" but try as I might, I can't solve it. Any help would be appreciated.

I found a fish by anagramming a 5 letter shell + a
I cannot say that I had heard of the fish I found. Just might have heard of the shell.

I have been working on the idea of another meaning for a shell, I.E. bullet, casing, grenade,etc then try that as a anagram. Not much joy yet.
