2.To get on is to age

The two definitions in this clue are 'hit it off' and 'mature', and 'being' is a link between them, which should in effect be read as 'also being'. So '[to] hit if off [with]' (phrasal verb) = '[to] get on [with]' and '[to] mature' (verb) = '[to] get on'.
