Flyte ?
Question Author
thanks johnalex I'll try that, by the way, where have you been, havn't heard from you for some time

olivia, I think that crest is well worth looking at!

Hi to johnalex!

Question Author
thanks crofter, what do I do toss a coin?
...but is Crest a sweet?!

That's a good question, Quizmonkey. It surely fits the bill feather-wise ... viz. "a plume of feathers or other adornment on the top of a helmet" (Chambers).

Entering "crest chocolate" into Google raises 1,760 hits including   www.royalcrestdairy.com/ products/nutrition/cookie_dough.htm

I thought that that was worthy of further investigation - but not tossing a coin!

If Flyte is a sweet, then check it out as an "adorning feather". My ancient Chambers gives "flyte" only as a Scottish word "to scold" or "to brawl".A better edition may give other definitions.

Question Author
thanks crofter I'll check it out, by the way how are you doing with the birds quiz cryptic clues to the coast to coast route?
Question Author
I have just found that llyons made a crest assortment box of chocolates

I am still working on the USA Quiz from Matlock!

Did you ever get the WEAN CARE answer?

I've just finished the Rainbow Quiz - otherwise "nothing doing" - apart from DIY.

Question Author
no I,ve searched all maps in the area between Philadelphia and New York but no luck so far

Hi Olivia  -  nice to hear from you.  I'm still around but sometimes prefer to watch the game without taking part, even though I may know the answers. It's good to see contributions coming in from newer members, which gives the site a wider appeal.  Happy weekend! ja

Hello Crofter!  My suggestion came from: 'Plume'=Feather=Flight='Flyte' which is the best I could come up with (but still not convinced!).  'Crest' is good thinking and also good toothpaste, but not good sweets! (although the question did say 'sweet tooth' !)  Now this is getting silly  -  have a great weekend!

Hi olivia

Like you I keep going back searching the maps.I'm sure they must have got a letter wrong.Keep getting drawn to LAWRENCE. It's really done my head in.Please let us know when you get the answer.

Val.

Hi Olivia. On 25th sept Juliely posed the same question saying that the clue had 7 letters.I think it is marabou. There is a marabou bar of chocolate and it is also a feather boa with feathers from the marabou stork. You helped out that day with another clue so if you go back to that day you will see how i knew the answer.Double check if you like by putting marabou bar  up on your search site..

Hi juliely I finished the birds quiz last night, so only have 6 to get in the sweet tooth quiz, numbers 4. 8. 51. 56. 62. 88.

olivia So glad that you got your "adorning feather " sorted out!

I've eventually found time to get to a Library to consult a "proper" atlas to help me fill the gaps in the Matlock Quiz. I am happy wth 97 of my answers.

Am I right in taking No 14 to be SALEM (again)? It wasn't on the map, but there's clearly such a place in Utah (as well).

For 31. A coin; High rock face? ... between London and Barrie, the closest I got was MARKDALE, but I don't like it! I was looking for something-CLIFF!

As for 42. WEAN CARE?  I don't think that it's a town or a place on the map. It could be like LAX, that is a thing to visit while in NY ... like CAW ARENA or something!

olivia I may just have fallen on the correct answer! Check out ACW ARENA! Is there one in the Philadelphia/New York areas? Is the quiz setter's son a wrestling fan?
False alarm!   ACW ARENA is not an anagram of WEAN CARE!    Shucks!!
