Today at work I have been subjected to the joys of radio station 'Planet Rock'. Not my kind of thing at all. BUT in the middle of their playlist was an absolute beauty.
An American heavy metal band called 'Disturbed has released this version of a beautiful and classic hit song from Simon & Garfunkle...'The Sound of Silence'
This is absolutely wonderful...hairs on the back of the neck job.
Slow to start with but builds to a chescendo......Enjoy...
I'll buck the trend a little bit. It's a pretty decent cover but I don't think you can beat the master. Paul Simon's use of words, harmonies and arrangements takes a lot of beating.
Don't usually like cover versions but when I heard this on the Ken Bruce show I was well impressed. Thanks for posting it janzman - now I can listen to it again.................and again!

I've liked them for a few years and their cover of land of confusion is one of my favourites. I never listen to radio 2 normally, but heard this one yesterday because I was with my mum who had it on.
Ta very much for that janzman. Caught the back en of it on the radio yesterday and have just listened to it through the 'cans'. Proof that 'heavy'bands are more than capable of producing more than just head-banging stuff (as my dad used to say whenever i was playing my 'Sabbath' albums a tad too high). Bands such as Black Sabbath & Deep Purple produced some very decent ballads in their time.
