I think wizgran means homesick is 8 letters not that it is the answer to number 8

Homesick looks good - anagram of some (c)hick.Maybe setter has made a mistake with letter count.

homesick certainly looks right if it is 8 letters. It may be worth checking whether the setter has issued any corrections

well it says, 'some chick'.....and chillies are not cold :-)

chi(ck) +ILL looks good then. And the "not cold" is saying it's chilli not chilly. there is no definition though so maybe the theme is foods

Chile is indeed a country but I can't see any reference to it in the clue and it can't be the answer
