Do you know how many letters?

Just thought of tanker, trough, carrier, galleon, kettle, steamer and waterbus.

OR is it cryptic? ie Bite, a nautical term from BE filled with IT?

I have another question, I was watching a game show the other night and there was a riddle on it:

'15 Tabby cats all meet 4 kittens, they all go to meet 5 manx cats. They all catch the bus to Motherwell. How many cats are there?'

The answer is 1508 but does anyone know how to get that answer because it is really bugging me!!!???
