Thank you for your suggestions. The theme of the quiz is British place names but GBS is only a part of a much longer clue. I will now have something to work with.

Not that it matters now anyway, but I would have thought that anyone with the slightest literary knowledge might have considered the possibility that 'GBS' could stand for George Bernard Shaw. After all, that's how he was know to friends, critics and readers throughout his life!
