46D Darwin, perhaps, has time for male opponent of Calvinism. (7) E - A - T - S

Or have I gone wrong somewhere? Thanks.

YesPenguin, I understand how the answer is arrived at, but I don't know why Darwin and Calvin were opponents.

Perhaps I should have paid more attention in RE!

I think that 'Darwin perhaps has time for male' gives you the way to work out the clue, the answer being 'opponent of Calvin' ie Erastus. Not sure that the clue suggests that Darwin was an opponent of Calvin.

Hope it helps.
