No2 MIDDLETON
No1 SINGLETON (a single is a £1 note)
No3 SCORTON? sounds like score = 20 + 20 cwt = 1 ton(but only if this clue follows the 'ten hundredweight clue')
sorry - too many letters for No1
No1 LONGTON (a 'long' is a double note).
4 Blackwood is a system used in bridge. It is also in Lancashire if it is within the range.
actually, SINGLETON works for No4 - as a lone card in any particular suit it's easy to play.
Davemano - I like BLACKWOOD, but can't track it down to check the distance (can only find Scots/Welsh options).
Found on Google Earth. South West of Bacup came up with Blackwood Road, maybe mistaken. Ordinary google result is same.
Maybe not Blackwood, can only see reference to roads etc, but I don't know the area. Sorry for misleading.
