If you're saying the sister is the sister of the great great aunt, then she is also a great great aunt of your mother which makes her a great great great aunt to you.
The sister would have to be the mother's grandmother for her to be the child's great grandmother.
I have a niece and she has a daughter and I'm thus her great aunt. I also have sister and she is a great aunt to that girl.
If my aunt is my mother's sister, and my great aunt is my grandmother's sister (and my great grandmother etc), and there are only two such sisters then the other sister at any remove must be in my direct line of descent? Is the way I see it.
Like the sister who ain't my aunt. The "greats" are just there to confuse, aren't they? My grandparents have two daughters, one of which is my aunt. And the other?
