Amazing quiz! Got the first 50 in one evening. Next 30 over two or 3 weeks. Last 10 are a nightmare (for me) shoved quiz in a drawer in the kitchen, and will study again next week............IF I can get time off from watering the garden!!!! (That is NOT a hint) Cobs on salt......

Thanks for all the replies. I was asking because I can find no reference to this quiz on this, or any other similar, site. Perhaps I'm the first to ask?
So any hints on these would be appreciated:
Starts capitally but comes to the point where it must end (8)
Nick throws money ......(4,5)
.....at wages of sailors on the Sabbath (8)
...but has Mr Twain played the role while sitting on the bench? (5,4,4)
Greek philosopher got the bird but had a scout around (7,5)

It would be helpful if you numbered the questions.
Where would you find a capital letter and a point?
'has Mr. Twain' - will give you an actor - take it on from there.
