Good morning twix ....I was beginning to think everyone had gone home ...I figure the last one has to be 'green' ??
Morning Steff. You're right, gage does sound obvious, but we did have "ferris" last weekend. Maybe they're having one banker each week now?
Well done Twix x
Well done, twix.
Yep, gotta be Green.

Steff, coming up to Halloween up here. Do they do Halloween down there ?

Yep, totally agree with that.
Used to love having greengages and custard, or greengage crumble, for sweet with Sunday lunch, before I got married 50 years ago. I can't recall having them since ! Are they still available ?
You don't see them any more Twix, you're right. My Nana used to make greengage crumble all the time.
Yes lovely wasn't they, like you I haven't had any for years, twix.
Waitrose are selling them though.

Well in Twix, I'd never would have come up with 56 Down. Never heard of it before.

As for holloween... of course Aussies and Newzealanders don't.... they're far too good looking for that.
When my parents bought their last house in 1954 there were two fruit trees in the back garden. One was a very prolific pear, but the other, which was unknown, didn't bear any fruit for 3 or 4 years. My Dad said that it would be removed if it didn't fruit the following year.
Lo and behold, a bud blossomed and a solitary greengage subsequently appeared. It was a race between us and the birds as to who would benefit from this offering, which ended up in a dead heat shared 50 / 50 between us.
The tree was replaced the following season with an eating apple instead (which also didn't fruit very well !).
Hi Arky. I'm into obscure pieces of armour, as they often come up in crosswords.

Halloween, pfft ! We have never 'celebrated' it, and usually give callers short shrift if they come knocking on the door looking for goodies that evening.

We had the 'unfortunate pleasure' of spending one Halloween in Salem, Massachusetts, one year. It was not the most thrilling experience and I could have thought of a lot more pleasurable things to have done on that trip to the States !
I've never being to the US... but Salem is not really the kinda place I'd want to be... through anytime of the year but Halloween... I'd be sure to give it a miss.
Used to get many a clipped ear of the matron in charge of the nurses home down the road from us as a kid. The young single nurses that worked in the local hospitals to where I live lived in the nurses home ( used to be a very big old house that belonged to the family that owned most of the village and surrounding land ) down the road from where I live. This big old manor ( type) house had an orchard, apple , pear, plum, damson and greengage tree's. A lot of the local lads used to go scrumping in there but if the matron spotted you ( her office faced onto the orchard ) boy was you in for it ! usually involved a bo*******g and a clip round the ear hole and the threat of if I catch you again 'I'll take you home and we'll see what you're mom and dad think about it'. Happy days.
We have a greengage tree here. There are other gage trees with different prefixes, we have one called Oulins Golden gage. So take a chance and be brave!
