Thanks folks. Good stuff. I remember the priest coming round to our house every week, as they used to do (do they still do that?) wanting everyone to go to church etc. My dad just told him straight - no way! If you want to do it, fine, but don't bother me. But he kept coming back every week. He was only a small figure but well built, for all that. A pocket battleship, my dad used to call him. A bit of a firebrand too. He used to play Hurling on Bowlee in Middleton. He got sent off a couple of times for fighting. Sent off for fighting in a Hurling match? That's what it's all about isn't it? We used to love watching him play, with all his cursing as well. You'd think he'd just arrived from the local building site. He used to roar round town on a Norton 750 in his leathers. This is a priest we're talking about. Fr. Fitzgerald. What a character he was! Sorry folks. Gone a bit off topic there!
