I haven't tried it, but surely it's 'rick' in the word toy. When empty (missing the middle letter) toy becomes the required t.y.
I'm sure toy is correct and will check it out.
Bobbinwales, how would it have worked with 'empty toybox'? Wouldn't that have given TX, rather than the TY that was needed? I think the clue with 'empty toy' doesn't read very well, but it leads to the answer.
