Wassail was a bowl of foaming beer passed round while sitting in front of a fire containing the Yule Log.
Nowadays, wassail could mean a mulled wine given to carol groups (mainly in villages nowadays) or friends when they come round at Christmas - but carolling, never!!
It is still the answer to the question thoug, even if it is wrong.
