Did you know ... That the standard version of the popular carol The Twelve Days of Christmas is infact the Geordie version.
This version of the carol seems to have been especially popular in Newcastle in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, appearing on many broadsides during this time.
This version, however, was not the only one. In other parts of the country different gifts were listed and many variants of the song existed. However, the GEORDIE version proved so popular that the others diminished and our version became the standard carol we know today.
