Brick is not another word for bread. Brick typically refers to a rectangular block made of clay or concrete used in construction, while bread refers to a food made from flour, water, and yeast or other leavening agents.

The two words have different meanings and are unrelated.

Albeit a while ago, having sampled 'Adobe Bread' during a visit to Arizona (a particular staple of the Pueblo people), then a propos of the original question, kindly accept 'adobe' as a direct challenge to BA being awarded to haras2 ;-)

Zebu, the clue posted by Seekeerz was using the exact wording as set by Kate Mepham.
The answer to the clue in Saturday's Giant General Knowledge Crossword was 'brick', as confirmed by the cross checking letters.
As per Chambers Dictionary, one of the definitions is 'something in the shape of a brick • a brick of ice cream.'
