shaneystar usually has the right answers but I wondered if this one could be a Red Setter? I think a type setter for newspapers could be the black & white connection.

I think Red Setter is the answer...having looked through a couple of books on dog breeds I can't find anything else.
There are
Kerry Blue Terriers
Golden Retrievers
Black and Tan **********
Irish red and white Setters..but I think Red Setter is the better answer from your definition of the clue.
