Similar idea to ToraToratoraIf 58 = 8-5-1=2  and  42= 2+4-1=5then:A = 52 = 2+5-1=6B = 42 =2+4-1 =5C = 49 =9-4-1=5D = 60 =0+6-1 =5E = 49=9-4-1=4F = 56 =6-5-1=0But the problem is there are other methods and solutions too. Eh?

Maths seems to have changed a lot since I got a degree in it ;-)

I think PP is posting under a different name  :)

sayra- please can you check you have typed this correctly.

I would have expected the question to start by giving the numeric value of two letters not two numbers.

Which quiz/puzzle is it you're doing? That might give us a pointer. Is there a theme? What are the exact instructions please.

🙃 What's the question?

Question Author

The question is what is the value of A,B,C,D,E and F which are a number between 0 and 9.

52=8, 42=5, 49=4, 60=7, 49=4, 56=0

So I think what you  are wanting to know:

if 2=58 and 5=42

What number =52?

What number = 42?

What number = 49?

and so forth

Your post wasn't thhere ToraTora when was typing.

Can you explain please?

It would help if you give the name of the quiz and the theme, if there is one.

Can you write the question exactly as it appears in the quiz?

Well in the abscence of any more information my answer may well not be what they are looking for but I applied the rules of the example as far as they fit with A-F. I noticed that in each 2 digit number the digits are different. So lets take 58 to get to 2 we do 8-(5+1) if the highest digit is 2nd. Now if the highest digit is first it's 4+(2-1) = 5. It fits but it may not be the answer.

 Why is, "B = 42" in the list when the quiz question  states, "5 = 42" meaning B must be "5"?

^ and why is 49 on the list twice (as C and E)?

ToraToraTora's has some merit but I'm not absolutely certain the question has been typed correctly.

yes I'd like to see the actual question. It's sad that we first have to work out what the actual question is!

TTT is applying a formula to the separate digits of the second number to get the answer. But the same answer is obtainable from different digits.

eg, you can get, say, 12 by multiplying 6 and 2. You can also get 12 by multiplying 3 and 4.

Question Author

That was the exact question.

FIND A B C D E F which are numbers between 0 and 9

If 2 = 58 and 5 = 42

then:
A = 52
B = 42
C = 49
D = 60
E = 49
F = 56

Is this from a quiz? If it is, what is the name of the quiz?

Since both C and E equal 49, I doubt if it is a mathematical question.

Similar idea to ToraToratora

If 58 = 8-5-1=2  and  42= 2+4-1=5

then:
A = 52 = 2+5-1=6
B = 42 =2+4-1 =5
C = 49 =9-4-1=5
D = 60 =0+6-1 =5
E = 49=9-4-1=4
F = 56 =6-5-1=0

But the problem is there are other methods and solutions too. For example, the rule may be if the second digit is smaller, then find the difference and add3, or double the difference and add one.

But I still think the question has not been posed correctly. Please come back to confirm the exact question, sayrah.

Your C is computed wrongly newmodarmy
