No, and in 1967 we bought our first house for £500 less than that!

Thanks, 1581960.

It's not exactly something that I'd be particularly proud to display either!

Just the job - more room for the grandchildren :-))

My answer came to mind because I was looking for an office chair a couple of weeks ago and saw one in John Lewis for the same amount of money that we bought our first (3 bed end of terrace) house for. Amazing!

Question Author

Yes, Haras2, but there's not enough there for Shady to get to grips with!

Question Author

I know the feeling, 1581960.

I paid £5650 for my mid-terraced Victorian house in 1977 and that amount of money doesn't seem to buy a lot really these days!

That's just wonderful Buenchico but I think Shady is too old to do all that even if he wanted to... it's as much as he can manage to put up with over friendly grandchildren  ☺

Some folk must be bonkers, bonkers with to much money I would think. Its an expensive way to draw attention to yourself in the bidding room.

£5650 You wouldnt be far away in paying that for a full central heating system.

Question Author

I'm prepared to be bonkers too though, NB1, if someone will kindly give me 'too much money' to do it with 😊

Question Author

Central heating?  Er, what's that?  (Never had it. Don't want it!).

Question Author

My trio are all fairly sedate these days too, Haras2, but they can still be destructive when the mood takes them!

No wonder the buyer wanted to remain anonymous!

Must say, it looks rather like my twig Xmas tree I have at present. 😮😮

Question Author

I see your point, DarceyK123!

So how much do you think that your tree might sell for, Sharon?

nice and minimalist, and it has a provenance.

Question Author

I don't do 'minimlist' in my house, Jno.

'Clutter', yes.  'Minimalism', no!

Probably belongs in a 'bygones' museum,    I remember  mum buying our first artificial tree,  it was silver tinsel which tarnished by the following year to a dull brassy colour.

That was all we could afford in 1968.

I can't see many cats being interested in climbing it - not too much of a challenge.

We have a much fuller variety and came down one morning some years ago to find not one but two live sparrows happily sitting amongst the branches. Luckily they were quite happy to leave through the window. We assumed one of our cats was responsible!
