What is the date 2000 days after the first day of year 2000?

If I put this into a spreadsheet, I get the answer 23rd June 2005, yet if I work it out manually, taking into account the two leap years 2000 and 2004, I get 22nd June 2005 as the answer.

Simplifying further:

If I simply add 173 days to the first day of 2005, I get the same result, the 22nd, yet the spreadsheet makes it 23rd again. Why does this happen?

The first day is Jan1 2000

The 2000th day is June 22nd 2005

The day that is 2000 days after the first day is...

The 2001st day which is June 23rd 2005.

When I add 173 days to 1/1/2005 I get 23/6/2005 (but it is actually the 174th day of the year)

That would be right kempie. Day 1 is Jan 1st, Day 2 is Jan 2nd etc up to Day 173, which is June 22nd. Add 173 to Day 1, and you're looking at day 174.
