I wasn't happy with yesterday's word - US spellings I can grudgingly accept but US words push my limits. We had an Ascot in our kitchen - it gave us hot water in the summer when the coal fire wasn't lit.

I did learn though that the American ascot tie is named after the Royal Ascot racecourse (racetrack, as the Americans say) and it is not exactly the same as a cravat.  So not a day wasted 😄
