It must be that but I'm confused by the wording of the clue

shouldn't it read "in the manche department of France"

 The 'minestrone' had me very confused....

The manche makes sense. I assumed minestrone was an unusual anagram indicator but it can't be.

The answer is easy elliemay. The hard bit is working out what the clue should have been

It was the ... waywardness of the clue that caught me out (I saw La Lucerne a while ago).

Because it is France I saw La lucerne immediately so just Googled La Lucerne Abbey

Elliemay1, I think most of us got the answer immediately, but 'minestrone in the man he' was a little... wayward for me!

I am sorry for the confusion I should have checked my question on answer bank when I posted it for reasons my I pad didn't like monastery and Manche and unfortunately I had to go out suddenly so didn't see all the postings thank you all so much for your patience with me and for your detective work and your answer

Thanks. It happens.  Today I typed a long reply then while I was trying to finalise the wording of the last sentence, the door bell rang and the workmen arrived- so I panicked and submitted rather than lose it all.
