Is it LITERal?
Question Author
We'd thought of that.... but why?

Sorry to butt in but this is from Chambers:

literal, adjective relating to or consisting of letters of the alphabet; of the nature of a letter; according to the letter, following word for word; not figurative or metaphorical; inclined to use or understand words in a matter-of-fact sense.
noun a wrong letter in printed or typed material; a misprint of a letter in a word (printing).

It's even in Collins English Dictionary!

to recap

American measure = Liter (how they spell litre)

a large = al

literal = typing error
