Ok I am often told that what to me is common knowledge, especially in astronomy, is not. So I thought I'd devise a little quiz to test the water. Have a go without googling or reading the other answers first.

1) What are the 8 planets in order going out from the sun?

2) What is the largest planet on our solar system?

3) What star is the brightest in our sky and how is it found in the sky?

4) What is the hottest planet in our solar system?

5) How far away is the closest star system to ours?

6) What is the star over the north pole and how is it found in the sky?

7) What is the crab nebula the remnants of?

8) What lies in the orbital space between Mars and Jupiter?

9)  What are the 4 Galilean moons of Jupiter

10) What is a pulsar?

Because during daylight the Sun appears to be the brightest star, and it can be dound easily by looking at more or less the same place at the same time from one day to the next

I answered it as Sirius accepting that's what you meant, but also said the Sun as it could have been a trick question. Turns out it was just badly worded.

You knew that anyway we have enough nit picking contrarian Aprils on here as it is without you adding your two bob.

2 Jupiter

3 Sirius

4 venus

5 no idea,  but guessing enough light years not to  be able to pop in for Sunday tea

6 Polaris  find little dipper and it's the end of the handle

7 supernova

8 asteroid belt

9 guessing Europa,  Gannymede, possibly Callisto  can think of others but not sure which to pick

10. A neutron star,  beams radiation from its poles

That was hard, I used to know this stuff, and watched a lot of programmes on documentary channels
