Another reasonably straightforward puzzle - I thought 43a was well hidden. However I can't quite work out the wordplay in 25d

The heart of holy Adriatic port (4)

It can only be 'Bari' but why ?

I took it as yet another mistake by the ed (one or two per puzzle isn't unusual) and that's why I didn't spend much time on it, so I could be missing something.

Best I could find in the religious arena is (ja)BARI(st) ...Ite ...Ist ...Ism etc (predeterminism for a certain religion) but the wordplay would neatly fit an altogether different port/sea - (s)ACRE(d).

That's the problem when too many errors crop up - you can quickly lose the will to persevere (I think).

Thank you, ProfessorMaisie - I'm never quite sure if I'm missing something embarrassingly obvious or if the editor's having yet another off-day

I'm with you there, Maxxer (but let's wait to see if a better explanation appears).

Any help with 43a.(my last one). I have ?et?e?. Are these letters correct?

^^^ Tetley

(Remove 'sharer' from 'harley street' to produce the anagram)

Question Author

Loki2034, those letters are, indeed correct. It's the best clue in an average puzzle. Think of 'doctor' as an anagram indicator

Thank you all.

Very clever.

I enjojed the 4 divide by 4 part of it. The rest was fairly easy. No obscure Scottish words!

^ enjoyed!

Am i missing something ?Cant find base in the grid and 2 down must be balinese surely?

Question Author

Try 19d, Everpuzzled :)

Question Author

...'base' is an editorial anomaly

Only missing 41A Long and limp Scottish seaweed, please?

The 8-letter unclueds seem a bit random. Are we missing something?

Question Author

It's 'Tangle'. I really miss the precision, and wit of Mr Magoo (a recent competitor on Countdown)

'base' crosses the Belgian artist lower down the grid.

Thank you, Maxxer

Question Author

Doesn't it have to be 'mate' to justify 'Magritte' ?

It crosses the 'a' of Magritte, Maxxer (37d).

By the way, someone on another site hinted at Aberis (the Hyperborian) a priest of Apollo for 'holy' @ 25d - which is slightly less of a stretch than my earlier offering... but still too much of one for me.
