i wouldn't but there are a lot of people not in the position to buy new x

No I wouldn't buy one - but is this a new initiative?  As far as I'm aware none of the charities take mattresses.

The mattress on my bed came from a charity shop. I bought it at a time when I could often only afford to eat one meal a day and every 'value' tea bag had to be re-used several times in order to make multiple cups of tea from it.  I've had it many years but it's now topped with a foam exercise mat and an old duvet so that I don't feel the lumps that have appeared in it.  (That exercise mat was also bought when I simply couldn't afford a new mattress).

Anyway, one is always sleeping on a secondhand mattress whenever one stays in a hotel - even if it's the Ritz!

We tried giving 2 perfectly 2ft 6in caravan mattresses to charity shops but we're told they don't take them. We were told there was a certain other charity that did take them , which I can't remember at the moment. I'll ask OH in a minute. We only took them out as site We have caravan on told everyone all mattresses must be replaced with new. ( health n Safety)?? We had 1 double and 4 narrow singles. All in good nick. We gave 2 singles to a young family that wanted them and double which was very comfortable to our son. OH just told me it was Dorset Reclaim we gave other mattresses to. I personally would want a second hand mattress from charity shop, but if we couldn't afford it, then I would if in good condition.

Wouldn't!

I wonder if those Simba mattresses are the returns? Simba does have a very good returns policy

barry - it's possible or maybe a tax thing.

Those mattresses aren't what nicebloke is talking about though.  He's talking about secondhand mattresses.

Dunelm website for new mattresses say BHF will take good condition mattresses secondhand for resale. This was last night when i was looking at new ones.

They stipulate they must be clean, undamaged and be fire resistant. They probably steam clean (where possible) them before selling.

I would if I had no other option

Yes barry i know, but still used. Theres a large BHF shop opened near me, I went in today and some of them are soiled and tatty, some also appear to be factory seconds with the packing ripped and retaped up.

I wouldn't buy a dirty, damaged one.

I would not buy one. I also wouldn’t want one for free.

You do stay in hotels, B&Bs?

Of course I do, but I don’t take the mattress home with me. It wouldn’t fit into my suitcase.

😁
