I think in the kids' programme Pogles Wood they used to always call them hedgepigs.

Indeed there was a hedgepig in Pogles Wood!

Because he was nocturnal each morning he would awaken the Pogles by ringing the front door bell shortly before he retired to his bed...awwwwwww
