It would be nice if more questioners could acknowledge the fact that they have received an answer. All it takes is the use of the rating system, a simple star is sufficient. It is quite disheartening to think that an answer (possibly researched) has not been received.

Thanks all.

I agree with you geo0939 Have noticed a lack of the Please or Thank You lately it does not take long for a simple reply

I was taught that good manners cost nothing!
I agree with you both, I go back to my postings for a few days after just to rate any new answers I may have got. You get a nice feeling when someone rates your answer, if I don't get a rating then I wont answer any more questions from that person and I advise others to do the same.
I tend to say thank-you without rating, as I always forget that bit.
I've only just started using this site and on the couple of occasions I've asked a question, I hope I've left a 'thank you'. However as I'm not used to the site, I don't know how to leave a star on the rating system and would appreciate it if someone would tell me. Thanks

Hi Crosso - To award stars on the rating system is easy but you can only attach them to answers you have received personally, ie to your own questions. That's why you can't see the option on this thread (because it's geo0939's).

Click on 'My Profile', then 'My Questions', then 'Rate This Answer'.

. . . or take this shortcut to one of your own questions to see what I mean (although you have already awarded stars to your replies). Good Luck! ja

Hi Johnalex, thank you for your reply...I found out how to award stars accidentally but your reply clarified it...although I'm still not sure how many stars should be given in certain circumstances! I do think the rating system makes the site more fun, though. Thanks again.

Hi crosso, the star rating works on a very personal basis. You decide how helpful the answer was, and rate it accordingly. No-one can decide this but you. I don't think any-one is looking for self-aggrandizement, just the knowledge that the answer has been received. Thanks for all contributions
Quite agree .. I am not looking for a pat on the back for every answer I give but at least if there is a star you know it has been read.I get very annoyed when I go to a great deal of trouble to research something and there is no feedback. Just a star to say that ,is not to much trouble surely.
I would not dream of not thanking someone on a day to day basis in the real world and good manners should also apply in the cyber world.
We can make an exception for dkeyse though as he seems to be the most ill mannered person I have ever come across on Q&P.
