Winning the Crossword Competition

Has anyone won big money with crossword competitions in national newspapers or mags ??

Yes well someone wins every week or month or whatever it is.

With a national competition the odds are slim. You'd need to enter every week for several lifetimes to stand a good chance of it being you once.

With local papers the odds are much better.

But some newspapers never publish the name of the winners eg. the crossword in the 'You' magazine which is in the The Mail on Sunday. One would expect such a newspaper to be decent and actually pay out to a winner but it would be nice to see a name each week

you can send for a list of prizewinners for the You mag crossword rescuer. If it restores your faith in them I can tell you that I won the �100 prize on 15th March 2004.

i won �25 in "pick me up" mag 3 weeks ago not life changing i know but still......

Yes, to my amazement, I did win the �2oo and Whitakers Almanack once. Left the package unopened in the kitchen for about 3 days , as thought it was "another of these wretched book clubs sending unrequested books". Nice surprise when I did open it!

I won the MoS Bare Bones last year, but I did not notice the announcement in the paper. The MoS sent the Collins books by courier, with no covering letter or reference to who had sent them. I too thought that it was a book club try on.

It was a really nice surprise when I dug through the recycling papers and discovered that I had won.

yes I won an incredible 9 out of the 12 MoS win a toy for Xmas prizes, Not bad for a total of �6 spent on phoning the 12 lines as we calculated we had won a total of �580.00 worth of toys

won �250 in chat mag, �200 in best mag, �150 in full house mag, plus numerous runner up prizes in other mags, you never know your luck.

I have won loads of comps in local newspapers, and �1000 of Asda vouchers in Woman Magazine, but like you say dzug, there is not as much chance in the nationals. Keep trying everyone !
