Rosherville Gardens ..which were in Gravesend in Kent.
Could the "G" be an "A"? The AVESTAS are the Holy scriptures of the Zoroastrians! (Just a thought)

thankyou shaneystar2

thankyou crofter but it definitely starts with G, unless the old capital of Angostura has another name

I have done this crossword and sent it in..and thrown away a copy I made of it !! Blast ! Angostura is indeed correct and I found the sect but I can't remember..... will keep thinking and looking for you and may get back if I find it ..but don't hold your breath!
Found it...they are the Ghebers or alternative spelling Ghebres
This is what I put so you may have a letter wrong on another clue.

shaneystar2,

Chambers seems to prefer guebres (alt. guebers) to ghebers/ghebres...

Yes think you are right there Andy. I am having a senior moment ...I wish I hadn't thrown the copy away now. But it doesn't seem to get asked for much on here .I went with my Collins dictionary and never thought to cross reference with Chambers.

Thankyou all, but if it is guebres or guebers then what does it make 28d for which the only word I can find is quintillion.

Chambers has no words that are QUI-E-L-I-N or QUI-R-L-I-N

quadrillion
