I came on AnswerBank a few months ago, and I have just answered my one hundreth question. Of these hundred, twenty six people have bothered to say thank-you or give a rating. As a reflection of peoples manners I find that rather sad, is this the norm nowadays, or as I said earlier am I being picky?

No you are not being picky I agree with you.

I agree with you BriwRite, the other day when sombody did not say thank you or reply at all I replied myself saying "oh thank you jan 3 answeres in 2 minutes etc" but they still failed to note the sarcasm. You could try to remember who has not thanked you and then not answer their questions again. I think it is the same in any walk of life, most people are polite it is just the exceptions that you notice

cheers jan

No you are not.Good manners cost nothing and if someone has gone to a lot of trouble to provide an answer to a question I think a thankyou ,either at the end of the thread or a rating is a nice thing to do.
I saw that one Jan....I had to laugh !!

glad I made you laugh shaneystar2, you seem to be having problems of your own at the moment, i have just been reading yours and patsyanns postings about the imposters.

jan

Agree with you completely, and thank you for asking the question!

Yes not very nice nice Jan.Poor old patsyann got impostered over on Body and Soul and consequently there were some rude remarks made.I can't understand these people or what pleasure they get out of such chidish behaviour.
Sorry to Hijack Briwrite. Just having a moan !!
of course people should say thank you and give a rating. And i agree with Jan, I'l try to remember who doesn't and will post an answe to that effect discouraging everyone else from replying!

Hey I'm with you guys Shaney, that imposter stuff is really sad. Its nice to get positive feedback from my original thread, thank you all.
BriWrite, I've mentioned this before and you must know that some people will never change. As an aside, what do you think of the get-out phrase "thanks in advance"?

I agree too, though I've been luckier than you, BriWrite, as I've received acknowledgement from most people who I've helped.

Re what you said, jan1956, posting 'You're welcome' as a hint that the person should say thankyou doesn't get any response either. If I notice someone consistently not saying thankyou to anyone, then I don't help that person again.

So thank you for starting this thread, BriWrite.

Sad I may be but I love it when I get a thank you. Alibobs goes around with a smile on her face for half an hour - I feel so clever! I always thank others as well - I am truly grateful for the answers, particularly things you can't find on Google such as the DT Sat crossword!!!!
Anybody care to elaborate on the imposter 'thing'? I haven't come across it - doesn't AB check? (That's me being naive)
Hi wideboy
Sorry to hijack you again BriWrite but actually it's a warning for people. I have been cloned several times. What these people (or person) does is sign up to AB with a very similar username. for example I have been cloned as Shineystar,Cheneystar2,Sheneystar. We have people purpoting to be Ward Mincer instead of the infamous Ward Minter .That is just a couple of examples. There have been loads more.
Yesterday in Body and Soul someone put a thread up as it was their Anniversary and someone cloned patsyann (a Q&P regular) by adding an E to the name and then posting rude remarks in this persons thread. Needless to say the person who's thread it was ,was most upset and patsyann was upset to think someone had made these remarks in her name.
They sign up ,wait two weeks to become grey and then start posting.Usually disparaging remarks in peoples threads or rubbish. The thing is people don't always look too closely at a username and one letter in the name slightly adrift and they think it's you !
It causes confusion and friction and is a very childish thing to do ,to say the least.
AB can't do anything about it .if they try to sign up with the same name it won't be accepted but by changing one digit they get through.
This is what the editor has to say

Hi shaneystar

I agree - very annoying. People lead sad little lives. Unfortunately, the only thing we can do is report the imposters when they come up - which is our technical team response.

We apologise for the inconvenience and we hope it does not deter you from using the site.

Thanks again for reporting - they have been removed.

AB Editor.
So if you someone who you don't think is genuine....report them.
Have a good day folks.

Hi geo0939, I have little regard for the 'Thanks in advance' brigade albeit slightly better than no thanks at all. It is just another way of not taking the effort to make another posting saying thank-you. I try to promote good manners in everyday life, and I realise what a salmon must feel like as it's rather like swimming upstream. I will not be bowed by peoples lack of manners, just dismayed. If in future people get a follow up to any answer I may give chiding them on their lack of manners, it wont be because I have a chip on my shoulder, it will be because I hope to persuade some people to change their ways. It's a long way upstream guys!

Have only just read this and agree with you all. A 'Thank you' costs nothing and I always do so.

Just like Goofy I try to remember who does not.

I thought it was just me and probably an 'age thing' as I find as I get older I have less patience with ill-manners so glad others think the same.

Ditto! A thankyou or rating costs nothing. And as Alibobs said, recieving one gives you a day long happy feeling.:-)
