Silver birch?
Peel is another name for bark, as on trees, so a birch is a peeler...ie something with peel. The adjective 'argentine' refers not just to the country but to silver. Hence, 'silver birch'. Silver is a level of medal and 'birch' means flog.
Curiosity only: Did you take your name from a well-known crossword compiler?
Very likely, as this clue is from this week's Guardian crossword set by Araucaria.
And the birch is noted for its peeling bark, it's a defining feature of the species.
Hopefully you've solved the rest by now - that wasn't the most annoying part of this week's Araucaria offering at all for me!
