Where in the world?

I often submit my answer to the above cocmpetition on a picture postcard. Twice recently the postcard (with first class stamp) has been returned to me - even though it was correctly addressed (as confirmed by my local post office). I enquired of Royal Mail as to why this happened and in reply received an e-mail asking questions such as where and when posted, value of the item, was it insured, did I get a receipt for it etc. etc. etc. Absolute nonsense! Has anyone else had this problem and if so, how did you solve it? I have even tried rotating my name and address so that it is sideways on to the destinaton address.

I used to have the same problem a few years ago when using ordinary postcards. When this was queried with the postman he advised me to write my name and address vertically across the back of the postcard with the destination address horizontally on the front with the stamp. I haven't had any more problems since (touch wood). Obviously you have tried doing something similar so I don't know what to suggest.

I agree with your comments about Royal Mail queries via the internet. I ordered several packs of stamps from them a few weeks ago and when one pack was missing following delivery I sent an e-mail about the mssing item. I got the same response from them as you have (ie where and when it was posted, value etc.) even though THEY had posted the item to me !!!

I have had this happen many times with regular postcards so now on the front I put TO:- underlined several times and on the reverse I put FROM:- also underlined several times.
This does seem to have done the trick for me.

Snap.........that has happened to me a number of times. Its beyond belief that they look to the left where the message is written rather than the right. I have started putting a typed sticker on the address side and just writing my details in ink on the left. (Your idea of writing it sideways is good too). Sorting office staff nationwide are obviously all as dopey as each other. !!
