Apologies to Suel re question 43. I thought it might have biblical connections, but realise now that it does not - it is a song title.

Has anyone any clues for 99. The up-train (9,7). Is it something express/railway?? Any clues greatly appreciated - many thanks.

Lapis Don't be too tied into the concept of the up-train travelling "up to London" - that's too one dimensional!
Think of a popular musical

Thank you both. Am I correct in thinking 'starlight'?!
Marrakech Express?
I'm not sure that you're on the right track.
Question Author
I was thinking 'Starlight Express' - but perhaps I'm still not on the right track?!
I'm thinking the up-train might have a steep journey.

Wherever it takes you it is fun at the start.

Can you offer any help on nos. 42&60?

As regards 42 - think form of Russian transport - the answer is written in the clue!

Willvince: Am really confused! ?funicular

Two stroke.a definition of a motorbike?

What about a wartburg, that was a two stroke car.

What about a petrol engine lawnmower.

But if you want to put motorbike,o.k.

Nearly there Lapis. Time to turn to Chambers.
Question Author
I have not given 'motorbike' as the answer, I said that it was a definition of the answer which happens to begin with 'P' !!
Question Author
Willvince: When you say time to turn to Chambers, are you refering to No.99 or the answer to No.60 which I already know?! Many thanks.
I'm still talking about 99, you already have half of the answer.( All that other stuff is making my brain hurt and I still have no idea about 60.)

I think the answer is a lloyd webber musical

i am really confused re; 99 as i had an answer same as Willvince now I am doubting it as many think it is the musical.
I suppose I will have to resort to eenie, meanie , minie, moo to decide.

Lapis Someone has opened a Pandora's box here. My original hint was to try to get you to think "vertically" rather than "horizontally". Now ALW's musical has appeared in the frame - and (like Jenny18 et al.) I hadn't thought of that!

My gut feeling is that I will stick with my original answer - on the basis that if the ALW musical had been the required answer, then the setter would have given a lot more information. The ALW's musical has a title which is rich in cryptic potential.

Whether I shall feel the same way next week is another matter, but for the present ...
