Very little is Mere ..which is also a stretch of water eg a lake or pond.But the letters don't fit.....!
Nevertheless have a nice birthday meal with your lady wife and good luck .

Bobo So as not to hold you up I will offer a very weak suggestion based on the letters you gave.

I have assumed that scuttle in this context is to hurry and taking most of the word (W) ATER is tear.
