I think this was Barry Michael - could be wrong but it was about his time.

Probably confuse everyone here. Firstly dont think Barry Mcguigan was British. He was born in County Monaghan which is one of the three Ulster counties in the Republic of Ireland. I also think he started at Featherweight.

Cornelius Boza Edwards was born in Uganda but emigrated to England. Whether he became English and therefore became British Junior Champion I dont know.

Barry Michael was born in Watford and later went to Australia. He definitely won the Commonwealth junior lightweight title in 81.

Point taken, but did he win the World Championship as asked in question. I dont think so but as I said earlier on not sure who did. The list of people was taken from Jeeves and Edwards is the only one I could see who could possibly be British.

Yes Big Al, I think you are probably right. Not often one gets a clue that is quite so difficult to pinpoint and I didn't find the Edwards answer. I think maybe my subconscious wanted it to be Michael as I too was born in Watford - although I can't even swot a fly properly!
