I have gone down with the flu and I feel hot/cold, sore throat and my nose alternates between being bunged up and then running like a tap.

I tried brandy & port last night apart from getting a good nights sleep, it hasnt made any difference. any suggestions? hubby went to GP for antibiotics last week [obviously I got it from him] but they havent made much difference to be honest.

take 500mg vit c tablet each day. dont sleep all day as will only keep you awake all night. most importantly- eat curry & lots of it!

I think you may have a bad cold rather than true influenza, but that doesn't make it any less miserable, does it.

When I'm down like this, I take Sudafed Cold & Flu. It has the painkillers plus the decongestant and I find it very effective. It can dry your mouth, though, so keep a big bottle of water with you.

You might also want to try sprinkling just a couple of drops Olbas Oil on your pillow at night.
Dee Sa I don't think anti-biotics are any use for a cold or the flu ,whether you take anything or not it usually takes a week to get over it ,Keep warm etc. Good luck .
Antibiotics do not work for colds or flu, so it is pointless taking them.

I like Beechams All in One for daytime help, and Night Nurse at bed time.

Rest up when you can, drink lots of fluids and you may find hot steamy baths or showers may help with the breathing.
Two yolks of eggs, (no whites), mix with sugar until creamy, stir in hot milk, thats to help you sleep, with all the goodness that it gives you, then add a tot or two of a good spirit, Rum etc, drink just before bedtime.
