Would corduroy fit?
Question Author
I've thought of that, but where's the theatre connection?
I fess up to not having read your question thoroughly, bookwormer... on reflection would paduasoy fit? It's a strong corded or gros-grain silk fabric, much worn in the 18th c. by both sexes, of which POULT-DE-SOIE is the modern representative. It originated, apparently in Padua, Italy and is used for clothing but also curtains and hangings found in ornate theatres... somwhat of a stretch, probably... Padua also being the city used by Mr. Shakespeare for most of the location for Taming of the Shrew...
Short and to the point, what about Rep for the corded cloth?
I think you are right with rep, FoxLee.

Brilliant, rep sounds good, thanks very much!
