I figured it couldn't be Dryburgh, as he's already referred to Scott's burial place (Dryburgh Abbey) as a 'second hamlet' earlier in the piece. He wouldn't then refer to the same place as a 'second abbey town', would he?
That said, I haven't got an aswer yet ;-)
Me again - I think it's Melrose Abbey. It's just North (actually just North-West) of Dryburgh Abbey. ADE.,
Sorry, so I think the second abbey town is Melrose ... ADE.,
I thought it was the small town just below Dryburgh as he skirted it going West?
